Good trees

Good trees grow into better trees with time.

Aged trees are appreciated by discerning eyes.

But men are not like trees.

Old men can be narrow-minded, and young men can lack spirit.

It depends on what kind of deeds and thoughts their time is filled with.

Facing today on the reflection of yesterday,

and searching for tomorrow on the reflection of today,

it is the way people are cultivated into good men.

 

 

나무는 나이가 들수록 아름다워집니다.
고목古木이 명목名木인 까닭입니다.
그러나 사람은 나무와 달라서
나이를 더한다고 하여
아름다워지는 것은 아니며
젊음이 언제나 신선함을
보증해주는 것도 아닙니다.
노老가 원숙이
소少가 신선함이 되고 안되고는
그 연월年月을 안받침하고 있는
사색의 갈무리에 달려있다고 믿습니다.

어제의 반성과 성찰위에서
오늘을 만들어 내고
오늘의 반성과 성찰위에
다시 내일을 만들어가는
끊임없는 사색의 갈무리가
우리를 아름답게 키워주는 것입니다.
