Memories alive

Memories are not like the river, which keeps flowing away all the time. They come back alive again and again, in various situations in the course of your life. People say that meaning grows with time in happenings. Small encounters that looked like mere accidents turn out to have been arranged by a certain fate. That is why, maybe, you feel reluctant to dismiss a letter delivered to you by mistake, a stranger who asks you for direction, or a request for a bowl of water by a passing traveller, as meaningless. This sense of fatefulness gets all the more vivid when you visit the sites of fierce struggles like the Gwangju Uprising or the Donghak Peasant Revolution. What you meet there are not lifeless fossils of the past. They keep sending out messages to whoever comes there.
