Fact or Truth?

It was a rainy day, just ahead of the holidays. My eyes landed on the elderly jailbird looking out the window. A gloomy sight, it was. I thought to myself, if this man were to have another chance with his life, wouldn’t he wish to live rather the kind of life in the story he cooks up for new inmates, than the one he has actually lived? I thought that the dramatized version of his life reflected both his humble hope and some sense of regret. In this sense the invented life story can be seen as a 'truthful' one. This is how I came to realize how different it is, whether you look at a person on the basis of facts, or on the basis of the truth.
