As I pull out weeds from the lawn,
the glory of the Aryan nations and the Auschwitz come to my mind.

Pulling out all kinds of grass other than "the grass",

I think of South Africa, and of the military academy.

And of the Indians at Wounded Knee.

Lawn weeding is a part of the socialization course here,

aimed at cultivating the patience of the inmates.

I keep pulling out the weeds, not knowing why they have to be eliminated.

Having spent my childhood in the urban area,

I do not know the names of the weeds I am pulling out.

Weeds can be nothing other than "weeds" to me

because I do not know their names.

Weeds planted by nobody, yet already preparing the seeds for next year.

As I keep pulling them out, I fall into answerless questions.

What is the meaning of beauty? Of life?

What looked obvious suddenly gets obscure.
