A bamboo shoot has thickly knit nodes on it when it emerges out of the ground and begins to grow into a tree. The thickness of the nodes is the source of the strength of the straight and tall tree the shoot will grow into. The flexible strength of bamboo trees in a grove standing against the hard wind derives from the thickly knit nodes on the shoots.

It is these thickly knit nodes that you have to arm yourself with before you set out on a long journey. That is the teaching of life and also of age-old science. So as to grow into a tall tree and become a part of a magnificent grove, you need to have in you a plenty number of stout nodes. Those nodes which will prepare you against all kinds of difficulties you are to meet during the journey.  [Shenzi]

A living creature is bound to go through a variety of situations. Some creatures adjust themselves better to more of them than others when they have a more complex inner structure. Life is not a simple matter. Not simple at all. [Orun]
