By the pre-dawn window in an autumn morning, I stop my reading from time to time trying to straighten up my thoughts. If the thoughts fail to be fully reflected in my daily life, they will not acquire the kind of substance that is needed for their application to practical needs. They will stop at being mere thoughts. I have to make a point of serious self-reflection to see that I am not sticking to empty shells of thoughts.

We should not be satisfied with what wisdom we find in written texts. "True learning is to be learned through doings." What you learn becomes alive only insofar as it is realized in your deeds. On the one hand you have to keep yourself aware of what is going on in the world. On the other you have to take care not to confine your concerns to today's situation and to extend them to what you will be required of tomorrow. Not an easy thing indeed.
